Liberation Memorial with Anti-aircraft Gun Wuustwezel

This monument commemorates the liberation of Wuustwezel on October 21th 1944 by the British Polar Bears.
The monument was placed in 1984, in 2009 a British Bofors 40mm anti aircraft gun of 1943 was placed next to the monument.

In 2019 it was 75 years ago that Belgium was Liberated by the Allied forces.
In this context, Tourism Province of Antwerp organized various activities related to the Liberation in collaboration with Liberation Route Europe. Together with the participating cities and municipalities, a themed brochure with local stories supplemented with photos was made. Information boards were placed at 48 historical locations, each with a local theme.

Theme Wuustwezel: The Battle of the Stone Bridge

Here the story is told of the heavy fighting during the Liberation of Wuustwezel. There are heavy losses on both sides and a two-year-old girl also dies.
