Former Fort Westervoort

Fort Westervoort was built in 1864 as "sperfort" Westervoort on the Arnhem - Emmerich railway line. In the 1930s the fort was provided with concrete casemates.

On May 10, 1940, this fort was the location of the first combat actions on Dutch territory. From this fort, the bridge over the IJssel was blown up to stop the German invasion.

The war damage clearly visible.
