War Memorial Eilean Donan Castle

Eilean Donan Castle is a castle located on the small island of the same name in northwestern Scotland. It can only be reached by boat or via a narrow stone bridge connecting the island to the lake shore.
The castle was in disrepair from bombing until John MacRae-Gilstrap restored it between 1912 and 1932.
He erected this monument for the victims of the First World War.

Underneath a bronze plaque with hundreds of names, arranged by regiment.

At the bottom of the text:
"We are the dead.
A moment ago we were alive.
We felt the dawn, saw the sunset.
We loved and were loved.
Now we rest in Flemish fields.

These lines were written by
Lt. Col. John McCrae. "

On the left is a small bronze plaque:
Lt. Colonel John McCrae was famous
Canadian soldier, physician and poet.
He died on January 28, 1918 in
Boulogne France.
He left it to us as a legacy
world famous poem after
In Flanders Fields "
