Memorial Resistance Fighters Septon

This plaque hangs in the village of Septon, along the facade of the "Al Bresseye" hall, Route de Petite Somme.

The plate commemorates the following people:
Pierre Dambois
Rene Kinet
Pascal Donnay
Gerard Waterschoot

All were members of the secret Belgian army, or resistance fighters. They were killed during the Plaine Sapin actions.

DAMBOIS Pierre Victor
Born: Liège, 1915-02-06; Died: Septon, 1944-09-04
Reserve lieutenant in the 4th Lancers Regiment, he obtained the bronze lion for stubborn resistance with his platoon during the battle of Paschendael on May 27, 1940. Was taken prisoner. Returning from captivity in 1941, he enlisted in the mobile squadron in the (secret) Belgian Legion. From 1943 he fulfills liaison missions of the highest importance. Then he organized the coordination of a secret army zone (Major in the Secret Army, Zone 5, Sector 3, Group 4, Plaine Sapin), organized arms transports and participated in various parachuting events. He was killed by the enemy while on a liaison mission.

KINET René Mary Joseph
Born: Hirson, Aisne, FR 1920-04-12; Died: Septon, 1944-09-04
René KINET, lived in Saint-Michel, Aisne, FR. He was asked by the Todt organization to work in Soissons, Aisne, FR. During his leave he hid with his father's family in Failon (Barvaux-Condroz). He entered the Belgian secret army (Zone 5, Sector 3, Group 4, Plaine Sapin). He was killed on a freely accepted special mission to France and Belgium. Last burial: Saint-Michel, Aisne, FR, municipal cemetery. A street in Saint-Michel, Aisne, FR bears his name

WATERSCHOOT Gerard A.
Born: Dendermonde or Grimbergen, 1920-03-17; Died: Septon, 1944-09-04
Soldier of the Secret Army (Zone 5, Sector 3, Group 4, Plaine Sapin) He is part of the group of 13 men tasked with freeing a Belgian captain from the paratroopers captured in Septon. During the fight he distinguished himself but unfortunately died on 4-9-1944 with an explosive bullet.
