A German cannon (PAK 40) has stood on the threshing floor in front of the church since 1945.
This PAK, Panzer Abwehr Kanone, and other equipment were left behind after battles with American troops during the liberation of Slins. When the American troops stationed here were called upon to support the Battle of Arnhem, this PAK 40, which they had captured from the German army, was left behind. The residents of Slins then placed the piece as a monument on the village square, where it has stood ever since.
Due to their heavy weight of 1425 kg, these cannons were often left behind during a rapid retreat.
The PAK 40 (developed since 1939 by the Rheinmetal company and put into service by the army in 1941) fired 75 mm shells that could penetrate 120 mm of armor from a distance of 1 km.
The PAK 40 was restored in 2003.
