Farm IJzerwinning Halen

The farm dates back to the early 19th century and played a key role in the battle of the Silver Helmets. The Belgian soldiers had entrenched themselves in the outbuildings and the bushes around the farm. Four regiments of lancers withstood the charges of the German cavalry for more than three hours.
A plaque on the house bears the following inscription:
"In front of this farm on August 12, 1914, the 4th Regiment of Lancers victoriously repulsed the successive attacks of the German cavalry for three hours / August 25, 1919".
