War Memorial Schevegraben Schüttorf

Column erected in 1888 with the so-called "angel of victory" in the top.

On the plaque;
Memorial. In memory of the fallen during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-1871. Due to the redesign of the market square in 1977, the column was moved to this location on Dr Scheurmannplein (Dr Scheurmenn-Platz).

The inscriptions on the column read;

Front:
They died hero's death for
King and homeland
in the war against France 1870/71

Left:
On behalf of the community of Schüttorf its brave warriors.

Back:
1 John 3:16: We will also lay down our lives for our brothers.

Right:
Unity is strength!.
