Commonwealth War Graves Eastern Cemetery Voorburg

On the Eastern Cemetery in Voorburg are two Commonwealth War Graves. The stones are along with the tombstones of 29 Dutch war graves placed in a monument.

These are the graves of two airmen of 40 Squadron of the Royal Air Force. Sergeant Alfred J. Roberton and Sergeant Francis Checkley were killed when their Bristol Blenheim P6901 crashed during a mission to bomb the German held airfield of Ypenburg. The third crew member, Aircraftman 1st Class Webster got out of the airplane. He was taken POW by the Germans.

During this mission two more 40 Squadron Bristol Blenheims were lost. The crew members of these planes are buried in Den Haag, Rozenburg, Rockanje en ’s-Gravenzande.
