Memorial Cross German Soldier 1914 Weisten

Opposite the cemetery of Weisten, there is a slate cross on the Böschel near the old oak.

The inscription reads: "Hier ruht ein deutscher Krieger, gefallen durch Unglücksfall im August 1914" ("Here rests a German warrior, killed in an accident in August 1914"). It recalls a regrettable misunderstanding in the early days of the First World War.

A soldier on guard was asked for the password in the dark. Because he did not answer and believed that his comrade knew about him, he was shot in the stomach in front of the barn of house number 13. The remains were transferred to the Crombach cemetery in 1934 because there was no cemetery in Weisten itself.
