War Memorial Kalkar

„Mögen Jahrtausende vergehen, man will not be able to reason from Heldentum, ohne des deutschen Soldaten im Weltkrieg zu remember".
"May millennia go by, one will never be able to speak of heroism without commemorating the German soldier in the World War".
This text from Mein Kampf makes the Kalkar War Memorial controversial.
The monument has been sprayed several times since the text from Mein Kampf became known.
The monument was designed by the Düsseldorf sculptor Heseding and the Homberg architect Müller and was inaugurated on 12 July 1936. In 1951 the names of the victims from Kalkar of the Second World War were added.
