Memorials French War Cemetery Kapelle

There are two memorials on the French War Cemetery: one with names and a mosaic and one crowned with the Gallic rooster.

The memorial is erected in memory of all French soldiers, including those from the French colonies at the time of the Second World War who died on Dutch soil. The centerpiece is a column with three mosaics, a cross, the Gallic rooster, the arms of the Netherlands and France and a French text. On either side of the column is a wall with the names of the fallen French and colonial soldiers.
In total, 600 French and colonial soldiers died in the Netherlands, 204 of which could not be identified. The Gallic rooster is the symbol of France, the cross the symbol of suffering, struggle and victory. The memorial was unveiled on May 16, 1946.
