Monument Royal Canadian Regiment

On a roundabout at the end of the Via Giosuč Carducci is a monument which remembers to Operation Husky. On the photo on the monument you can see the two commanding officers of the Royal Canadian Regiment: Lieutenant Colonel Ralph Marston Crowe and Major John Henry William Taschereau "Billy" Pope. This photo was taken on July 16th, 1943 near this monument. Both men were killed in action several days after this photo; Ralph Crowe on the 24th of July 1943 near Nissoria and Billy Pope on the 18th of July 1943 near Valguarnera. Both are buried at Agira Canadian War Cemetery.
