Castle Impdehof Battle of Imde

Text on the information board:
"Imde, Monday, August 24, 1914 – 12:35 p.m
A company of the Jagers te Voet reaches the gate of the castle 't Kint and takes cover in the adjacent houses. Around 1.10 pm most residents of Imde flee to Slozen. A little later, the Germans open fire from the Paardeweidebos and the lane to Wolvertem castle. Several dozen Belgian victims were killed in skirmishes at the bridge over the Molenbeek.
Around 2 p.m. a column of Germans enters the village and then the Belgian artillery comes into action. First some shrapnels, then a shell on the church tower. The German shelling stops, the village disappears in the haze of explosions, colored red here and there by the rubble of the shattered brick.
While the Germans set the castle on fire, mayor 't Kint has been locked up as a hostage in the pharmacy of doctor Van den Bruel for half a day. His wife and children, who were hidden in the basement of the castle, flee over the burning parquet."
The burned down castle was rebuilt in 1923.
