Crypt Cathedral St. Victor Xanten

The miner's lamp is reminiscent of
Nicholas Groß
1898 - 1945
Miner, union secretary, editor-in-chief of the Westdeutsche Arbeiterzeitung / Ketteler Wacht.

The father of seven children was executed on January 23, 1945 by the National Socialists in Berlin-Ploetzensee for his resistance based on Christian beliefs.
His ashes were scattered.
On June 17, 1988, the start of the beatification process was solemnly announced in Xanten Cathedral.
Nikolaus Groß's original miner's lamp, installed in the crypt in 1967, was stolen by unknown persons in 1995.
The miners' association in Xanten and the surrounding area donated this miners' lamp in 1996, which is reminiscent of Nikolaus Groß.
