This location is the overgrown house where Joachim Peiper was shot and his house set on fire on July 14, 1976 (major French holiday). Because he had previously been recognized by an ex-resistance fighter from the area, he could no longer live his life in anonymity. His wife and children had already gone to Germany for that reason. Despite threats, Peiper himself remained in Traves.
In the night of 13 to 14 July he was shot dead by still unknown perpetrators and his house burned. The road to the house was removed and turned into a meadow, which it still is today (2022). The charred body of Peiper was found in the house and is buried in Germany.

The place has been "given back to nature" and completely overgrown.
The location is on private property and can therefore not be visited freely.
