Stumbling Stones Hagsche Straße 10

This brass memorial plaque (Stolperstein or stumbling stone), placed on 10-7-2017, commemorates:
* REGINE LEFFMAN-KAUFMANN (born 1857, deported 1942 to Theresienstadt, murdered 18 September 1942)

Regine Kaufmann was born on 13 December 1857 in Nierendorf and lived with her husband Moritz Leffmann in Kleve from around 1880. There they ran a large residential and commercial building together. In 1942, Regine was deported to the Theresienstadt ghetto, where she was murdered on 18 September 1942.

This Stolperstein lies here for a Jewish war victim, persecuted, deported and murdered in World War II.

"Stolpersteine” is an art project for Europe by Gunter Demnig to commemorate victims of National Socialism (Nazism). Stolpersteine (stumbling stones) are small, 10x10cm brass plaques placed in the sidewalk in front of a known residence of (usually Jewish) victims of the Nazis. Each plaque is provided with the victim’s, date of birth, and fate. By doing this, Gunter Demnig gives an individual memorial to each victim. One stone, one name, one person. He cites the Talmud: “A human being is forgotten only when his or her name is forgotten.”
