Maquis de Meilhan Memorial - Cemetery

In the morning of 7th July 1944 a group of some 100 Resistance-fighter, led by Dr. Raynaud, were attacked by some 1500 German soldiers. After a few hours of bitter fighting they had to surrender due to lack of ammunition. Of the Resistance 68 were killed in action and 20 could escape. Four of them were taken prisoner and executed. Four hostages were tortured and murdered.
