Former Military Airport Cluj

In September 1917 the order was given to develop a military airport in Someșeni. In the period between the 2 world wars the airport was used for civil aviation, however at the start of the Second World War the airport become a military airport again.

After the Vienna Diktat on August 30th 1940 Transylvania was transferred to Hungary, who started to immediately together with the German Airforce to use it. It became an important Airforce base.

After Romania joined the Allies in Augustus 1944, the airport was attacked on September 15th 1944 by the Romanian Airforce for the first time and by the end of September the airport was completely destroyed.

Nowadays this is the civilian airport of Cluj
