Grave Cyriel Verschaeve Alveringem

Cyriel Verschaeve (Ardooie, April 30, 1874 - Solbad Hall Austria, Nov. 8, 1949) priest, man of letters and activist for the Flemish cause during WWI.
During WWII, he chose the German side. He fled abroad in 1944 and was sentenced to death in absentia in Belgium for his collaboration in 1946.
Verschaeve died in Austria in 1949. In 1973, Flemish militants dug up his coffin at Solbad Hall op transfer it to Belgium where he was eventually buried in Alveringem where he had been a vice-pastor from 1912 to 1939.
