Monument Zyklon B Dessau

Dessau was the site of the Dessauer Werke für Zucker und Chemische Industrie, the main production site of Zyklon B, a pesticide used by the Nazis for genocide during World War II. About two-thirds of all Zyklon B was produced here.

The SS collected Zyklon B from the production site in Dessau to distribute it mainly to Auschwitz-Birkenau. There it was used as a means of killing people by gassing on a large scale. In Auschwitz, about 1 million people, mostly Jews, were murdered in this way.

A new factory was built on the site of the factory after the war. Replicas of the poison gas cans with informative text were attached to the railing of the Brauereibrücke in 2005, about 500 meters from the former production facility, as a monument commemorating the murder with Zyklon B.
