Navajo Ordnance Depot (Camp Navajo)

Navajo Ordnance Depot was activated July 1, 1942 and was on Navajo Indian territory. Many Navajo Indians found work here in construction and later in the executive duties of the depot. The depot received, sorted and shipped ammunition and basic goods. In 1943 the complex was expanded with a hospital for the civilians who worked here and there was a small prisoner of war camp. The complex was closed in the 1980s.
