Erwin Air Force Auxiliary Field

Erwin Air Force Auxiliary Field was Newport's former airfield. During World War II it was taken over by the AAF and used for training airmen. The airfield was later passed on to the Marine Corps. It continued in military use into the 1980s. Erwin's auxiliary field:
