Meadows Field Airport

Meadows Field Airport (then Bakersfield Municipal Airport) was taken over by the AAF in December 1941 with battle-ready fighter units in case California needed to be defended. Later in the war, the airfield was taken over by the 4th AF as a subbase of Hammer Field. The Naval Air Transport Service also used this airfield.
