Vandenberg Air Force Base

Vandenberg Air Force Base was built during World War II as Camp Cooke, a training base for mechanized units. There was also a prisoner of war camp for 800 internees. The base was taken over by the Air Force in 1957 and subsequently renamed Vandenberg Air Force Base.
