Hamilton Field

Hamilton Field was built in 1929 to defend the Bay Area. It was also the headquarters of the 4th AF. The Field had an AAF regional hospital and AAF landing hospital. In 1942 many of the planes based at Hamilton were sent to Hawaii due to the threat at Midway. In 1943 Hamilton became a training base and the following year a base to intercept Japanese balloons. After the war, Hamilton Field was renamed Hamilton Air Force Base and finally closed in the 1990s.
