Naval Station Treasure Island

The Naval Station Treasure Island was established on this artificial island in 1941. The base was intended as a reception and embarkation center. The headquarters of the 12th Naval District was also located here. During the war, no less than 12,000 troops were processed in this centre. The Army had four C-98 seaplanes stationed here. The naval base remained operational throughout the Cold War.
