Monument Abel Guidet

The memorial was inaugurated on July 11, 1948
Abel Guidet was a French political figure, mayor of Bapaume and Member of Parliament for the Pas-de-Calais in the Senate from 1936 to 1942.
He was part of the Resistance during the German occupation until he was arrested on November 27, 1943.
He was taken to the concentration camp of Gross-Rosen, present-day Rogoznica in Poland, where he died on November 27, 1944.

The monument includes the following text: « HOMMAGE RECONNAISSANT / A / ABEL GUIDET / DEPUTE MAIRE DE BAPAUME
/ MORT AND DEPORTATION / LE 27 NOVEMBRE 1944 / ET / AUX HEROIQUES VICTIMES DE LA GUERRE / 1939-1945 « .

Tribute to Abel Guidet, Deputy Mayor of Bapaume,
died during deportation November 27, 1944 and to the heroic victims of the war 1939-1945".

The text on the front of the urn: « LA TERRE CONTENUE DANS CETTE URNE
/ A ETE RAMENEE DU CAMP DE CROSS ROSEN / OU IL EST DECEDE ET A ETE INCINERE / 1944-1974 ».

"This earth in this urn was brought from Camp Gross-Rossen where he died and was cremated 1944-1974".

He was posthumously awarded a Knight of the Legion D'Honneur, Médaille Militaire, Croix de Guerre, and the British Military Medal for services during World War II.
