20 June 1942: Short Stirling bomber (N3762, No. 214 Sq.) crashes after attack on Germany. The occupants: Pilot Sqldr P. Nixey DSO KIA, Co-pilot FO A.M. Mitchell POW, Navig. _FO C.D. Noble POW, Bomb. WO L.R. Burgin POW, Flt Eng Sgt W.E. Pearson KIA, Radio op. Sgt D.A. Melville KIA, Topgunner Sgt A. Buckley KIA and Tailgunner Sgt J.H. Bailey POW.
22-year-old pilot Peter Nixey and 23-year-old Arthur Buckley gunner in the upper center turret died on the plane. Two more crew members are found dead in the vicinity.
