Routemarker 2nd French Armoured Division Zellwiller

The route of the 2nd Panzer Division is recorded through memorial posts marking the route taken by the French 2nd Panzer Division during the liberation of France in 1944.

The route starts in Saint-Martin-de-Varreville where the division landed in August 1944 and ends in Strasbourg.

The posts are made of white plastic. One side has an image of a liberty torch; the blue and white "A" badge of the Third Army and the words "Voie de la / 2ème DB / 1944-1945". The other side depicts an emblem of the 2nd Armored Division: a blue and yellow card of France with the Cross of Lorraine on it.

Between these images are the name of the place and the distance along the route from Saint-Martin-de-Varreville and the words "Borne du serment de Koufra". The top of the pole is domed, below which the outline is marked with the 48 stars of the 1912-1959 American flag.

On the nearby panels you can read why the posts were placed and you can read the local history and the actions of the division in this place during the war.
