Memorial Georges Romedenne

As the Germans fled in September 1944 and retreated towards Germany, Georges Romedenne shouted in Fléron "Vive la Belgique, Vive la Belgique". The Germans were not pleased with this and took Georges with them during the retreat through the Voer region.

When they arrived in Noorbeek and a drinking party started there, Georges was put on a bench in front of 1 of the houses with the order not to flee, otherwise reprisals would follow for Noorbeek. The inhabitants summoned him to flee, but Georges did not want to because of the consequences. After they had finished drinking, the Germans took him to the Bessemerweg, a little further on, shot him and robbed him.
