Belgian War Graves Focant

The municipal cemetery of Focant contains two war graves from the First World War.

René WAUTELET was born in Focant on February 9, 1885.
He was a soldier 2nd class 13th Line, Cie van dépôt.

on July 6, 1917
at the age of 32 years"

Gustave THIRY was born in Focant on August 30, 1891.
He was a soldier 1st class 12th Artillery 106th bat.
He was killed in the final phase of the final offensive when Belgian and French troops tried in vain to cross the Leie Diversion Canal.
German machine gun fire broke the attack from the start. The losses were very heavy.
