Belgian War Graves Martilly

The Martilly cemetery contains several war graves from the Second World War.

Henri HARDY died in captivity in Neuengamme on January 22, 1945.
He was 26 years old.

Roger GRIBOMONT:worked for the Belgian Railways in Arlon.
He was arrested on August 19, 1944 and deported to Germany
He died as a political prisoner for the fatherland in Sandbostel, Lower Saxony, on April 30, 1945. He was 22 years old.

Paul MERNIER: mayor of the municipality of Straimont, was a volunteer in the First World War. In the Second World War he was a resistance fighter.
He was arrested by the Germans because of resistance activities.
On September 1, 1944 (a week before the liberation of Arlon) he was arrested together with 11 other resistance fighters shot dead by the gestapo in Tontelange.
A street was named after him in Straimont.
