Memorial Chapel Pondrôme

Just beyond the cemetery, on a hill, is the "Chapelle de la Colline".

The chapel was built in 1943 on the initiative of the then pastor, Father Culot.
It is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and was built by the Pondromois in gratitude for the protection the village received during the two world wars.

To the right of the chapel we see a monumental statue of the Virgin Mary, queen of the universe, crushing the head of a snake, a symbol of evil.
This statue is the work of a renowned sculptor: Louis Thomas van Sohier.

Two memorial plaques hang from the round arches:
Left: "1914-1918
Joseph GOLINVAUX
Alfred JASPAR
Fernand DAUNE
Edgard SERVILLES
Leon FABRY
Leon BOVY
Ernest LALOUX
Joseph MASON
Joseph MARCHAL"

Right: "1940-1945
Joseph PIERARD
Joseph GENSON
Ernest BRUN„

To the left of the chapel is a memorial stone for the civilian victims of the Second World War.
"To the civilian victims
Gustave LOUVIAUX
Auguste MOYSE
Justine FROGNEUX
M-Louise DE JONCKHEER
Cyrille DUBUISSON
1940-1945"
