Memorial Lauersche Gärten Mannheim

In the Lauersche Gärten there is a memorial plaque for Adolf Doland, Hermann Adis and Erich Paul who were shot dead by the police at that location on March 28, 1945, without trial, on the orders of police captain Otto Hugo Böse
This happened one day before the American soldiers crossed the Neckar and occupied the city center of Mannheim. The only offense the three men committed was that on March 28 they were in the building of the "Velvet & Silk" department store (later the Vetter department store), above which a white flag flew to signal the willingness of the people of Mannheim to capitulate to indicate.
