War Memorial Avignon

The war memorial, located at the entrance to the Jardin des Doms, is a project by the sculptor Louis Botinelly.
It is an original work, with simple shapes, close to the Art Deco style
It consists of a female figure in Carrara marble that represents the allegory of time and memory. She carries no warrior attributes.
There are bas-reliefs on both sides: soldiers fighting on the left, soldiers carrying a fallen man on the right.

This monument to the dead of 1914-1918 was inaugurated on November 11, 1924.
Although originally intended for the First World War, there are also references to 1939-1945, Indochina 1945-1954 and the Algerian War 1954-1962.
