War Memorials Scheibenhard

The flowerbed near the bridge over the Lauter River has two monuments.

The left monument is red in color and is in memory of the 1st French Army, 2nd Army Corps, 3rd Infantry Division, 4th Regiment Tiralleurs Tunisiens, which managed to overpower an SS police unit on the German side in Scheibenhardt here on March 19, 1945. By the actions the Allies were able to establish a bridgehead on the German side of the Lauter.
The bridgehead allowed the 1st French Army led by General Jean de Lattre de Tassigny to break through the Siegfriend Line.

The right monument is a pentagonal stone with two memorial plaques in memory of the 96th engineer battalion that built a temporary bridge over the Lauter for the 5th armored division here on March 19, 1945 this for the battle on German soil.
