Memorial 152nd Brigade 51st Highlanders Ronchamps

On January 10, 1945, the 152nd Brigade of the 51st Highlanders advanced past the 153rd with the mission to cross the Marche-La Roche road and capture Ronchamps in order to cover the right flank of the division's advance through the Ourthe Valley. The brigade was supported by the East Riding Yeomanry. There was little enemy resistance towards Ronchamps, but minefields and shelling, in combination with the thick snow, made the journey slow.
When Ronchamps was reached in the evening, the German rearguard withdrew. The Brigade had taken its positions and remained steadfast, but the next day they encountered continued German artillery bombardment. A number of victims were killed during a clash at the intersection.

A memorial was placed at this intersection.
"152nd Brigade of the 51st Highlanders
Honor to the heroes who died in January 1945
in Ronchamps, Ronchampay and Vecmont
to preserve our freedom from barbarism."
Below it hangs a plaque with the names of the fallen who fell in Ronchamps and Ronchampay.
