Tunnel System Dasburg

As part of the construction of the Western Wall, two parallel tunnels were planned under the Dasburg, which are connected in the mountain by two cross tunnels. Tunnels (mine structures) of this size blown into the rocks served as ammunition and food storage facilities. Originally, it was even considered to expand the system to the "Jeybach" area in the upper village. The mining company carried out the construction work with the support of the Reich Labor Service. Construction began in the summer of 1939. Work on the unfinished structure was halted after the armistice with France on June 22, 1940.

The structure was secured and remained in this state until the Reich Labor Office began to dismantle the barriers along the Our. The Reich Labor Service now used the tunnels as a temporary storage facility for materials such as barbed wire, poles, etc. When American troops reached the Ourtal in September 1944, parts of the population of Dasburg withdrew into the tunnels until the evacuation order of September 11 and 12, in which the inhabitants of the "Red Zone" had to evacuate their villages. In December 1944, the divisional headquarters of the 2nd Armored Division used the tunnel as a command post. During the bombing of the bridge and the village it served as a refuge for many Wehrmacht soldiers.
