The museum is named to the codename of the Canadian military operation for the liberation of western Zeeuws-Vlaanderen in October 1944: "Operation Switch Back".
For the façade of the museum is a rapid-fire gun with the text:
Rapid-fire gun 40 mm of the wreck of the cargo ship Fort Maisonneuve (Br.) belonging to the Empire class, 7128 gross tonnage, crew of 60, sunk on 15 December 1944 off the coast of Cadzand during its voyage from New York to Antwerp.
Four crewman were killed.
