Holocaust Memorial Szeged

The first Ghetto of Szeged was in the block where this Synagogue is located and at first there were 4000 Jews living here. In June 1944 this ghetto was transferred to the outskirts at the brick factory. Jews from the region and Southern Hungary were deported to this ghetto, bringing the total to 8617 Jews. All of these were deported on 25th, 27th and 28th of June 1944 to labor camps.
This memorial commemorates the deportation.
on the Menorah it says:
"They were killed by hate, their memory is preserved by love." This lamp commemorates all those who were deported from Szeged as Hungarian Jews and were never allowed to return.
