Commonwealth War Grave Vichy

On the General Cemetery in Vichy lies on the French World War One field of honor a Commonwealth war grave from the Second World War. It is the grave of Captain Edward George Alfred Bisset of the Special Operations Executive, he died on September 24, 1944. Bisset was French, with a Scottish father and French mother. He was an explosive expert, deployed in mission "TILLEUL".

The Special Operations Executive (SOE) was during World War II a British intelligence organization. The organization was involved in sabotage and guerrilla attacks against the Germans. It had contacts with opposition groups in various countries and worked with British agents and resistance fighters from occupied territory trained in Britain.
A total of 400 agents were dropped in France, of which 100 did not survive the war. Outside France, the organization was also active in Belgium and the Netherlands.
