World Peace Tree Nuwara Eliya

On July 19, 1919, Mrs. M. M. Wedderburn, the spouse of an acting Governor of British Ceylon, planted a Cypress Tree at Victoria Park.

While she planted the tree in hope of peace after the brutality of World War 1, it also stands as a silent tribute to 17 residents of Nuwara Eliya who died fighting for the allied forces.
