Fleet Lagoon in Dorset was initially considered for bouncing bomb tests during the development of Operation Chastise but played a lesser role compared to Reculver and Herne Bay in Kent. In September 1942, the first full-scale test drops took place over its waters using a modified Vickers Wellington bomber. However, early trials revealed issues, as the bombs failed to bounce properly, instead breaking upon impact. This led to further refinements, with later successful trials conducted elsewhere.
