The Ruhr Bridge was destroyed on 17 May 1943 by a flood caused by the breach of the Möhne Dam. The bridge was rebuilt after the war.
The Möhne flood claimed 117 lives in Wickede due to insufficient warning. It destroyed 76 homes, damaged 110 more, and left 900 residents homeless. The town’s factories shut down, while residents, Organisation Todt, and pioneers worked to recover.
