The Möhne flood claimed 117 lives in Wickede due to insufficient warning. It destroyed 76 homes, damaged 110 more, and left 900 residents homeless. The town’s factories shut down, while residents, Organisation Todt, and pioneers worked to recover.
On May 17, 1958, 15 years after the disaster, the social association "Eintracht Erlen" erected a memorial on the Ruhr’s banks, near the Ringstrasse-Hauptstrasse junction, honoring those lost in the flood.
