Building Research Establishment (BRE)
BRE, founded in 1921 to improve UK housing, contributed to the secret development of the bouncing bomb used in the 1943 Dambusters Raid. A small-scale testing model remains in Garston, Watford. Over time, it absorbed various research organizations and was privatized in 1997.
