Off the coast of Bernières, the bottom of the baie de Seine contains traces of the confrontations that took place during Operation Neptune. Several wrecks of warships as well as landing craft which delivered troops and material to the Normandy beaches sare well known to local divers, including archaeologists, who are now interested in this heritage. These include the destroyer HMS Lawford and a landing craft, both located at 6 nautical miles (11 km) north of Bernières. The minesweeper M 39 attests to the German naval presence in the baie de Seine in advance of the conflict.
