Memorial 41th Royal Marines Shanklin

“Memory of the 41st Royal Marines commando (1942-1946)
and the inhabitants who received them in their homes.”

The first 41st Commando (1942-1946) was a unit that was part of the 4th Special Service Brigade.
They were active in Sicily (10 July 1943) and the Italian city of Salerno (9 September 1943). Later they played an important role in the landing operations in Normandy (D-Day) and the other actions in NW Europe including the one in the Dutch Walcheren to open up the port of Antwerp (1 November 1944).
After the war this unit was disbanded.
