German Marine Memorial Swakopmund

Monument to those German Marines of the First Marine Expeditionary Corps that died during the Herero and Nama peoples uprising against colonial forces. The statue was commissioned by the Marine Infantry in 1907 and transport to Namibia aboard the gunboat Panther in 1908.
The resulting actions of this conflict lead to death of 80% of the Herero and 50% of the Nama and in now considered an act of genocide.
