High Knoll Fort

High Knoll Fort was originally built as a Martello tower in 1799 to protect the rear approach to Ladder Hill Battery. At 584 meters above sea level, it dominates the area around Jamestown It was expanded to its present structure by the Royal Engineers in 1874, as a redoubt fort where the population of the island could shelter in an invasion
During the Second Boer War it was used to house some more troublesome Boer prisoners who were being held in the camps on St Helena,
